The Bookie Monsters’ Questions:

1. You can only read one book for the rest of your life. Which book would it be and why?
   Sarah: Deathless. The narrative is rich, the story lasts longer than you expect, and the characters have great depth to them. I’ve never read that book without getting something new out of it; it answers a question I didn’t know I was asking every time.
   Amy: Harry Potter all the way. I would be lying if I pretended it would be anything else. I think if I couldn’t bring the whole series, I would pick the 7th book because it goes through the largest range of emotions.
2. Do you have a literary crush?
   Sarah: I either fall for the really funny guy, or the super bad boy in a book. A good blend of this is probably Finch in All the Bright Places. Tragic figures get me, too.
   Amy: Oh, boy. I don’t really get crushes when I read. However, Rhysand from a Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Mist and Fury seemed like an awesome character to marry and have on your side.
3. Your favourite character has come to life and he/she has managed to acquire a magic carpet! Who is this character and where do you decide to go on your magic carpet ride?
   Sarah: I think Miss Hermione Granger and I could enjoy a magic carpet ride quite a bit while discussing magical theory. If we’re angling romantic on this getaway, Rhys from A Court of Thorns and Roses would make for some intrigue.
   Amy: We are definitely mindtwins, Sarah. I didn’t even see that you wrote Rhys down here 🙂 I think I’d honestly just jump on the magic carpet with Sarah and Hermione. We’d have a blast flying around and seeing all the magical places in the Wizarding World. I’m also pretty sure that Hermione would be able to make a protection spell where we wouldn’t have to worry about bugs flying in our faces (always a concern).
4. If you could open your own bookshop what would you call it and what would be one cool/quirky/unique thing about it?
   Sarah: Dog-Eared Pages. My very favorite books have tiny crimps in the corners of the pages I’ve marked up, which makes them a great tactile experience as well as an intellectual one when I’m reading them over and over. It would clearly be a used book shop, and to make it interesting, I’d install wheelie ladders, a reading corner full of pillows and cushions, and a slide.
   Amy: The Broken Spine. It’s the name of the bookshop in the novel I’m writing, and I love it so much. The unique feature would be a secret second level where all the special editions and rare texts would be stored. There would be a large meeting place for a secret society of book nerds (aka my book club!), and we would hold meetings and special events.
5. You’re off to fight in a battle. Which magical creature would you charge into battle with and why?
   Sarah: As an ally? I think Blackjack from the Percy Jackson series would be my getaway car (“Yo boss!”), but as a battle companion I’d want the dragons from books I read as a kid— Dealing with Dragons. I hardcore wanted to be Cimorene as a girl. Those were some of the only YA books available to me growing up, and I read them over and over.
   Amy: Drogon the dragon from the A Song of Ice and Fire series. His fire and ferocity would hopefully make up for the my general lack of courage and knowing what the heck to do in the face of battle.
