Word Nerd Wednesday: Ineffable

Here at Lit & Love, we obviously love words. In a collective effort to celebrate and expand our vocabulary, every Wednesday we will be posting a word we love: words we discover in our readings, words we stumble across in our conversations, or sometimes words that we just like the sound of.

How can you get in on the fun? We encourage you to post a creative sentence using the word in the comments below. We will feature our favorite on next week’s Word-Nerd Wednesday!

Best Sentence from Last Week:

“The young prince laughed with merriment as the jocular jester made a spectacle of himself throughout the great hall.” From Jack Weber! Congrats, Jack 🙂

  1. There’s a line from How I Met Your Mother where the main character (T) is breaking up with a girl (N) and the dialogue is:

T: You’re not the one for me.
    N: So what’s the problem?
    T: Well, it’s just ineffable.
N: Oh, so I’m not effable?
T: No, no, no, ineffable means it can’t be explained.
    N: So I’m stupid?

Having never heard the word before, it made me laugh. My use of “ineffable” would be:

When Jeremy saw his fiancée walking down the aisle, he experienced an ineffable feeling.

(Of terror as he booked it before it was too late! 😉 Just kidding!)
